Subject: Paranoia at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade To our Friends & Subscribers: Here in the States we have quite a Thanksgiving holiday tradition. Parades, turkey dinners and football (not the round ball variety). This is one of the infrequent occasions that the stateside half of B&B Electronics takes a day off and our European coworkers continue to toil away (or so they tell me!). But I'm scared to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year. You know why? 'Cuz some Hollywood Glam Queen is going to have a little wardrobe malfunction as she goes by on her float, and my brother is going to be mad at me for having the TV on while 13-year-old Jed is in the room. And it won't take no PR genius to figure out that the TV Network apology was scripted months in advance. Like ANYTHING that happens on TV is an accident! (If news of Janet Jackson's halftime spectacle didn't make it across the Atlantic you might not realize just how sensitive we are about this sort of thing.) No, we won't be watching TV on Thursday. There ain't going to be no Macy's Parade. There'll be no pre-game special, and we sure ain't watchin' no football halftime show either! No, this thanksgiving we're just going to eat my ma's Elvis-Style Sweet Potato Pie. It's so good, you have to take your shoes off and wiggle your toes while you eat it! And I'm going to consume any and every kind of juicy, mouth-watering indulgence that's got lots of cholesterol. And when I give thanks, I'm going to remember to appreciate all you B&B Customers out there in industrial networking land who outfit your serial ports and LANs with the goodies from our catalog. So, I'm thankful to you, my cherished customer. But also I think you should be thanking ME. Thanking me for what, you say? First, you should be thankful that we folks here at B&B will never send you a wardrobe malfunction attachment in any of OUR email messages. Our emails are appropriate for the entire family, yessir, as well as all your friends at the office! The second thing you should be thankful for is that we have a real, live, Honest-to-God tech support department that takes your phone calls and answers your emails. We employ actual real human beings, and not just a computer or outsourced support staff. So if you email mailto;support@bb-europe.com, fine men and women with a small-town work ethic will answer all your questions with a cheery smile. Got a question right now? Ask away - mailto;support@bb-europe.com. The third thing you should be thankful for is that we screen new technologies on your behalf. We get pitched on something new almost every day! And out of a vast sea of allegedly great ideas, we're developing some real winners for you for 2005. Here's a partial list of stuff you're going to hear about in future e-connections issues: - 802.15.4 wireless (Redundant Mesh Networking)- in a Nuclear Power Plant - A very special newsletter devoted exclusively to wireless technology developments and applications - News on improving electric motor performance using wireless networks, based on a university study - Frank discussion about the fact that ALL the different formats (WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, WiMax and anything else you care to mention) have advantages AND disadvantages. None is perfect and all have tradeoffs. We'll give you straight answers on all the new stuff. - Wireless disaster: Some history you do NOT want to repeat, under any circumstances. Stay tuned! And stay thankful. Happy Connections, Mike Fahrion B&B Electronics .
