My St. Patty's Day Severe Hangover

Friend & Subscriber,

I'm really sorry it took me 'til Tuesday to write you a Saint Patrick's Day email message, but.... uh, there's been a lot of partyin' going on. Carly, a bartender friend of mine in Savannah, Georgia (I guess they have the biggest St. Patty's day parade on the planet down there) said she saw a guy who'd just bought a brand new $1500 video camera accidentally drop it down the hole in an outhouse.

I guess things were pretty frothy in Savannah over the weekend, huh? And that's just the state-side festivities. Stories (hopefully documented with photos) are still sliding in from the B&B Electronics crew in Ireland.

Some at B&B have really wrestled with keeping their commitment to Lent while still participating in the festivities.  It was important to give up something, so the common consensus was to abstain from all alcoholic beverages that are not green.

So Monday was a bit fuzzy around the edges. But a lot of great literature was written by people with hangovers - Hemingway, Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald and James Joyce.  They channeled their pain and turned their splitting headaches into a powerful force of energy.

So, here goes today's hops and barley fueled e-connections...

-Everybody loves a good Industrial Ethernet switch, especially when it's got redundant power and 1500 Volt isolation. These were new last summer and have been flying off the shelves.  And hey, the 3D photos of this are very cool, you can zoom, turn, move and measure it with your mouse:

-Got a nasty RFI environment?  Robots spitting weld slag and electrical noise?  Radios and high voltage lines and switchgear?  That's horrible for transmitting Ethernet, but the packets pass through in total silence if you've got a Fibre Optic converter.

In January we introduced our new Elinx media converters. We have both Industrial and commercial flavors of these.  They extend distances up to 2 km with multi-mode fibre, up to 20 km with single-mode fibre:

-We've got a huge of a family of USB to serial converter products that now boasts the largest selection in the industry. Whether you need a single port for field service or 16 ports for a retail application you'll find it in this huge product lineup from Quatech. The combination of quality, product range and outstanding prices make this the best value in the USB world.

Hey, one last thought.

I know you think the "green beer instead of brown beer" Lent thing is some kind of compromise, but you might just be underestimating the significance of the color green. As proof, have you ever considered how many of the Great Superheroes are green?

Although the guy at Retrocrush.com insists that the Incredible Hulk is not a superhero, there are many others: the Green Hornet, the Green Mask, the Green Lantern, the Green Arrow, the Green Goblin and the Green Power Ranger.  Plus there's the Jolly Green Giant, who sells peas (a heroic effort at my house).

Well our Tech Support team, too, has come forth: They perform death-defying acts of courage, honor and valor... safely carrying colossal amounts of data through the most perilous of situations.  They save customers' bacon when the assembly line absolutely, positively has to be up and running.  They are the modern-day, swill-swallowing (green or otherwise) heroes of the manufacturing industry.

And this able team takes phone calls. Yep, you can ring 'em on 353.91.392444 and you'll be coached through the safe transport of your data. And yes, the best part is, on Saint Patty's Day, they mix it up with mere mortals and drink green beer with you too.

Happy Connections,

Mike Fahrion
